Sprawling over an area of 60 acres, the Brindavan Garden tops the list of tourist attractions in Mysore, Karnataka. The garden, which is divided into two sections – the main garden and musical fountains. This picnic spot around Mysore is an ideal spot for families, couples and kids alike. Inspired by the Mughal style, the garden is designed with symmetrical pathways and intricately shaped flora. HISTORY

The Brindavan garden was brought to life by Sir Mirza Ismail, under the instruction of the then Maharaja Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV to beautify the area around the Kaveri Dam. The construction that began in 1927 continued for years and was completed by 1932. However, since then the garden has undergone constant renovations, with the highlight being the addition of Musical Fountains in 1966.

LIGHT AND FOUNTAIN SHOW

An area of 2.5 acres is dedicated to the infamous Musical Fountains, which features 120 fountains that can shoot water up to a range of 25 m from the ground. The show which begins at 6:30 pm involves the rhythmic movements of the illuminated fountains and water jet dance in sync with the music. The digitally controlled water flow coupled with the use of aquatic organs and laser lights leaves the audience with a memorable experience during their trip to Mysore. The visually immersing show features Indian classical music in its first half and contemporary music in the latter half. While on weekdays the show only lasts an hour i.e from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm, on weekends it lasts from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.

HORTICULTURE FARMS

The two major horticulture farms within the Brindavan garden makes your vacation in Mysore worth it. The Naguavana horticulture farm is the largest, covering over 30 acres of land while the smaller Chandravana farm takes only 5 acres. While the former is situated near the main gate, the latter is at the centre of the Kaveri river. The farms host a wide range of flowering and fruit-bearing plants including mango, coconut and fig trees.

With the temperature ranging between 10 – 30 degree celsius, visitors can comfortably explore the garden. Tourists are advised against coming to the garden during day time in summer season due to the scorching heat.
