LALITHA MAHAL PALACE

LALITHA MAHAL PALACE

Stay inside a real palace during your Mysore Summer vacation! Spend your days like a king inside the majestic palace turned luxury Hotel. Trip to Mysore introduces the best place to stay in Mysore - the Lalitha Mahal Palace Hotel.

THINGS TO KNOW

A pristine white palace set amidst a vast and beautiful garden at the foot of Chamundi Hills is a lovely palace hotel for you to stay in during your Mysore vacation.

ARCHITECTURE

Designed by E.W Fritchley, the domed palace has drawn inspiration from St. Paul’s Cathedral in London. The white castle built in the Renaissance architectural style reflects the appearance of an English manor house and an Italian Palazzos. The two-storied building features an enormous central dome and small ones around it. The whole structure is supported by an Ionic double column.

INSIDE LALITHA MAHAL

The hotel’s accommodations range from deluxe to classic heritage king and the most luxurious viceroy rooms. The interior is furnished with Italian marble staircases, Persian carpets and Belgian crystal chandeliers. The palace, which houses a full-length portrait of the Wodeyar Kings, can make you awe with its Banquet hall and the Dancing floor. Though many parts of the old mansion are left as it is, a few changes have been made, such as transforming the Ballroom into a dining hall.

The rooms also come with a sizable balcony that offers stunning views. You can see the Chamundi hills to the left of the upper balcony, while a direct view of Mysore city would be the one that arrests your attention.

HISTORY

The second largest palace in south India, the Lalitha Mahal, was constructed by King Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV in 1921 to accommodate the then Viceroy of India. With 54 luxury suites and rooms, the palace was also used as a guest house for the Maharaja’s visitors.

In 1974, the majestic residence was converted into a heritage hotel. Formerly maintained by the Indian Tourism development corporation, in 2018 it came under the protection of the Karnataka government.
