RANGANATHITTU BIRD SANCTUARY
A day in nature among birds during your Mysore tour. Include this heaven in your next trip to Mysore. The Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary, which homes a wide variety of exotic birds, is one of the top tourist destinations near Mysore. Take a virtual tour in and around the sanctuary with TriptoMysore, your perfect travel guide.
BOAT RIDE
The sanctuary offers a well-guided boat ride, which is helpful as the area comprises small islands. Along with providing details about the birds, the guides can help you spot the camouflaged animals otherwise invisible to untrained eyes. You might also see otters and marsh crocodiles along with birds during the ride.
The charge for the Boat ride at below section.
PLAN YOUR VISIT
The best time to visit Mysore’s Ranganathittu bird sanctuary is between September and May, when the weather is pleasant for bird watching. Between June and November is the monsoon season when the forest is thick and green. It is also the nesting period for birds. However, the muddy roads may hinder the experience. Visit during your summer vacation in Mysore. The hot summer is when the birds and animals can be easily spotted, for they come to the outskirts of the islands in search of water.
Though open from 9 am to 6 pm, visit in the morning, when the birds are most active. Evenings are ideal but avoid coming at noon, as most animals will stay in the forest.
Outside food is not allowed beyond the entry gate, but you can carry water bottles. The park provides drinking water, canteens and rest area facilities.
PHOTOGRAPHY FEE
It is recommended to carry a DSLR camera if you want to take photos of the birds. There might need to be more than the mobile camera to get quality shots of the animals. PHOTOGRAPHY FEE details at below section.
STAY NEAR THE SANCTUARY
The forest department offers rest houses, which require prior booking. Private mid-range to luxury resorts are available in and around Ranganathittu park.
The forest rest house fee : Rs. 4000 per day per room
